A high performing team needs to be like a family? I don’t agree.

A lot of clubs/companies talk about their teams being a family. A working high performance team is not a family. Comparing a team or a company to a family belittles what a family is. A family should be far more important than a team to any team member but this does not mean a team member cannot give their all to their team when they are working in that team. Placing a team or work or company on an equal footing with a family is not good. Do you want someone on your team that believes his/her job is as important or more important than their family? You are not going to cast out a family member even if they are not performing or not achieving targets which you may need to do to an underperforming team member for the good of the team.
