Hear what some of my clients and colleagues have to say about me after working together on various projects throughout my career.
I played with Peter throughout my career from underage representative squads to full senior international tours. We have toured together to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Argentina with the Ireland senior squad. He is a truly great guy and a scrummaging expert. Scrummaging was the best part of his game as a player and I am delighted he is launching a new scrum analysis service to complement his excellent scrum coaching service. I have seen him coach on the pitch and he is a natural. Not every coach can get their knowledge across well enough for every player to understand but Peter does this and in a very efficient and energetic manner. On the analysis front he gets his points across very simply and clearly. He can spot tiny technical issues immediately and correct them straight away. I recommend all clubs and players to use his world class services.
Having played with and against Peter I know his knowledge of scrummaging is world class. I know this knowledge will be extremeely benificial to any ambitious team, player or coach. The scrum is the most technical area of the game and Peter has a great ability at getting this knowledge across to fellow players and coaches. It is very important to have specialised dedicated scrum coach on a team’s coaching staff. Peter can provide this to teams at all levels.
Peter is part of the IRFU elite scrum coach programme where our aim is to identify, coach and produce world class Irish front rowers. Peter contributes massively to this with his passion, knowledge and innovation.
Peter was always a formidable scrummaging prop when he played. He was known within his peer group as a knowledgeable and passionate scrummager. He is now taking that expertise and passion into his scrum coaching career.
Peter’s scrum knowledge and expertise is at a world class standard. I don’t know a better scrum coach in world rugby. The Ireland women’s scrum went from being the poorest in the 6 nations for many years to being the best scrum in the competition in the space of one 6 nations champion ship under his coaching.
Peter always did a job for us at my time in Wasps especially at scrum time. His new scrum analysis business will be of enormous benefit to any team.
I had the opportunity to work with Peter during our 6 nations & World Cup campaign. He brings a wealth of technical expertise to the table and as a tighthead I really developed as a player under his guidance. As well as being extremely focused as a coach he is approachable and fun to work with. And a year on I know I can always pick up the phone and chat to him about the latest scrummaging techniques and ideas.
Peter was our scrum coach during our two most successful seasons ever. He was fantastic to work with as a specialised scrum coach. His attention to detail at scrum time was very impressive. He could analysis a scrum in detail in a split second during matches or training on the field and on video analysis off the field. We had a scrum strategy for every game and every opposition. I highly recommend his services.
I worked with Peter during my time as assistant coach of the Ireland women’s team. We collaborated as coaches along with Philip Doyle to ultimately win a grand slam 6 nations and place 4th in the world cup 2014. Peters contribution was immediate and long lasting. He brought the Ireland women’s scrum to the next level in terms of quality and effectiveness. His scrum coaching provided a stable scrum platform for our backline to play off which had not been the case ever before. Our scrum dominated opposing quality international competition. I highly recommend TheScrumDoctor scrum coaching and analysis services.
Peter has been at the forefront of scrum coaching in Ireland for many years and has always demonstrated a keen interest in both the technical and the safety aspects of scrum performance. As a tutor on IRFU coaching courses he has brought a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach and has provided valuable service to the development of the scrum with the coaches and players he has worked with
Peter has a tremendous amount of knowledge gained from years of playing top flight International and Premiership rugby. I can attest to Peter’s considerable technical ability from playing with and against him, and his ability to impart that knowledge to amateur and professional players alike. I have frequently used Peter’s scrum expertise to up skill myself in my own Coaching career in the professional ranks in Japan and NZ. I would highly recommended Peter to any team or individual front rower who wants to rapidly improve their scrummaging ability
I played with Peter at Galwegians and Connacht in my final year of playing. Peter was one of the up and coming stars of the team along with Jonny O’Connor and Eoin Reddan. Peter was very strong and dynamic. Peter was very focussed especially on scrummage technique and learned the dark arts of the front row from some experience players. He went on to play for Wasps, Barbarians and toured with Ireland to New Zealand a few years later. A very dependable guy who knows his onions and won’t let you down.
Hi Peter, thanks for your help with my scrummaging. It was by far the best coaching I have had and helped me alot in some big matches towards the end of this season. I had alot of difficulty scrummaging at tighthead before coming to see you but since then have seen big improvements in this part of my game. The simplicity in the way you explained things made understanding the fundamentals very easy. I have found that I have alot more energy towards the end of games as I am not using strength as my main weapon when scrummaging. I did not think I could get as much out of a one to one session as I did and I am looking forward to working with you again.
Peter totally transformed our scrum. He placed huge emphasis on our body position, body height, power distribution, speed and quickness. His theory and practice of good technique overpowering brute force was proved as we began to dominated bigger and heavier packs after his instruction.
We have used Peter as our scrum coach this season and he has been exceptional. Our scrum improved dramatically starting from his first session and the improvement grew exponentially throughout the year. He has great communication skills. A patient, good natured guy, he gets his point across effectively and accurately with good humour. His top priority is safety which is paramount when dealing with younger, less experienced players. I highly recommend his services to any club wishing to improve their scrum.
An in dept, technical and tactical knowledge of the scrum was the first observation I made of Peter when he took our first session. He broke our scum down and rebuilt it in fine detail. It was immediately evident he possessed the most up to date techniques available for a modern scrum. He noticed bad habits instantly and corrected them accordingly. It was obvious he is currently playing at the top level and his professionalism and enthusiasm was infectious.
Peter is always keen to learn and improve. His work ethic and determination to succeed is clear to see. His attention to detail is hugh when analysing individual scrum performance and the teams scrums performance.
Peter’s scrum expertise is phenomenal. He spots scrum issues that nobody else can see. He has a solution to every issue. Our scrum was completely dominant all year due to his scrum coaching. We had a solid platform off every scrum, we were extremely destructive on the opposition ball all year and we scored a lot of pushover try’s.
I asked Peter Bracken of TheScrumDoctor to do 4 workshops with my first team. We were been badly beaten in scrums as we had a very light and young pack. The results speak for themselves we went from having a very weak scrum which could not win its own ball too one of the strongest scrums in the league and I can say it contributed hugely to our promotion in the league that year.
Rugby is my son Arron’s life and it is his dream to be a professional rugby player. He has played mostly in the back row but the advice he has been given is the best chance he has to play at the highest level is to play prop. So I started looking for a scrum coach to work with Arron. I found Peter and it has been a fantastic decision. Arron says he learned a phenomenal amount from Peter even in the first few minutes of being coached by him. Arron was a relative novice to the front row but within a few weeks he was on the select Munster development academy as a front row player. His technical knowledge, skill and ability has grown exponentially with Peter’s help. We also use Peter’s scrum analysis service to monitor Arrons progress and make improvements away from the field. Geographical and time constraints and school commitments etc don’t allow Arron to meet Peter every week but the individual player scrum analysis done on Arron’s match footage keeps the progression going. Arron knows himself he would not be the prop he is today without Peter’s coaching and mentoring. We will be using the ScrumDoctor services for many years to come.
Just regards our scrum session with you for Strabane Rfc regards to development after just one session it was simply superb with a mix of experienced lads and lads just starting the game and in particular the two lads propping for 1st time to have the scrum stripped back and rebuilt was perfect for everyone ,for a club that prides themselves at scrum time to see they were just scratching the surface and can improve 100% really opened there eyes especially the more experienced lads realising they can still improve was hugely important. The lads myself as a coach and our committee members watching all really enjoyed the session and manner it was delivered both professionally but also a degree of fun but also real intensity when required to say there was a great buzz through and after the session would be an understatement. The idea of the weekend was to see how the session helped us in our two games with Ballinrobe and Castlebar and there was huge improvement between the two games also being able to blood two new young props after 1 session into a 1st level game against a hugely physical and strong scrummaging team like Ballinrobe speaks for itself but also how they improved from the Friday to the Saturday game both the new lads but also the older lads and pack as a whole and with 13 lads getting a run it showed great depth and continuity as the level didn’t dip regardless of changes being made. As a coach and just new into the club one huge thing il take from it is to never assume lads have been coached correctly before as a hooker myself to see when looked at closer experienced lads had incorrect positioning with the simplest things was a huge eye opener. All in all a Brilliant session and we can’t wait to work with you again as a club and individuals I would wholeheartedly recommend Peter and his service to clubs and schools at all levels of the game even with experienced coaches will only find good in a fresh voice on such an important part of the game. We have since played two games and been completely dominant against higher level sides so a huge thanks Peter and we look forward to continued improvement with you

“Regarding our scrum session with THE SCRUM DOCTOR for Strabane RFC. The development after just one session was simply superb with a mix of experienced lads and lads just starting the game of rugby. For a club that prides themselves at scrum time to see they were just scratching the surface and can improve 100% really opened their eyes especially the more experienced lads. To say there was a great buzz throughout and after the session would be an understatement. The idea of the weekend was to see how the session helped us in our two games with Ballinrobe and Castlebar and there was huge improvement between the two games also. Being able to blood two new young props after 1 session into a 1st level game against a hugely physical and strong scrummaging team like Ballinrobe speaks for itself but also how they improved from the Friday to the Saturday game. The new lads improved massively after just one SCRUM DOCTOR session but also the older lads and the pack as a whole. With 13 forwards getting a run it showed great depth and continuity as the level didn’t dip regardless of changes being made. As a coach and just new into the club one huge thing I’ll take from it is to never assume lads have been coached correctly before. All in all a brilliant session and we can’t wait to work with you again as a club and individuals. I would wholeheartedly recommend THE SCRUM DOCTOR and his service to clubs and schools at all levels of the game. Even experienced coaches will only find good in a fresh voice on such an important part of the game. We have since played 9 games and been completely dominant at scrum time against higher level sides. We have scored 15 scrum pushover try’s in 9 games! Unbelievable! Being brutally honest our scrum would have been the catalyst for 90% of our wins. We are in general not the biggest of sides either so it takes the false idea that you have to have a huge pack to scrum out of the equation. The boys really look up to you and believe in the coaching So a huge thanks Peter and we look forward to continued improvement with you”.
This is a video of a scrum we pushed 25 meters and scored a push-over try off. It’s only the first 5 meters of the scrum, I’ll try and get you the full-length video”.
